Objective: This study was to investigate the relationships and comparison among cognitive function, oral cavity structure and function, orofacial strength, swallowing capacity according to characteristics of patients with stroke.
Method: Fifty four stroke patients participated in present study. Korean Mini Mental State Examination (K-MMSE) to measure cognitive function, Korean Oromotor Mechanism Screening Examination(KOMSE) to assess oral structure and function, Tongue Pressure Strength(TPS-100) was used to measure oral and facial muscle strength, and Swallowing Capacity Test(SCT) was used to verify swallowing capacity.
Results: The age, oral and facial muscle strength in the study subjects were significantly correlated with swallowing capacity(p<.05).
Conclusion: These findings suggest that swallowing function is related to age and orofacial strength of stroke patients.
